What is fine-cut tobacco and what makes it special
Fine-cut tobacco – also known as shag or hand-rolling tobacco – is cut finer than pipe tobacco, with a typical cut width of 0.3 to 0.5 millimetres. The longer, uniform fibres interlock perfectly when rolled by hand, ensuring a stable, evenly burning cigarette. The higher moisture content of around 15–20% is intentional: it keeps the tobacco supple and prevents it from falling apart when rolled. Important: fine-cut tobacco is not suitable for filling tubes – the moist, long-fibred cut clogs filling machines and produces cigarettes with no draw. For tubes, we recommend bulk tobacco.
Brands and range
The fine-cut range at CBDeluxe includes Switzerland’s best-selling brands. Pueblo and Natural American Spirit stand for natural tobaccos without artificial humectants or flavourings – pure tobacco, free from chemicals, with an authentic flavour profile. Classic brands such as Drum, Van Nelle or Winston offer tried-and-tested blends with consistent results. Mild varieties with a high Virginia content or labelled ‘Blue’, “White” or ‘Silver’ are particularly suitable for beginners or as a carrier for CBD flowers. Pouches containing 30g to 50g from CHF 8.80. You can find matching rolls and filters as well as lighters directly in the relevant categories.
Storage, tips and legal information
Always store fine-cut tobacco in an airtight container – either in the original packaging with a freshness seal or in a tobacco tin. A hydrostone (clay stone) in the container maintains the optimum moisture level, which is particularly important for natural tobaccos without synthetic humectants, as these dry out more quickly. Dried-out tobacco can often be revived by placing a slightly damp paper towel in the tin for 24 hours. Depending on the fill quantity, around 40 to 70 cigarettes can be rolled from 30g of fine-cut tobacco. Legally, sales are restricted to persons aged 18 and over; age verification is mandatory in the online shop. Tobacco must not be advertised as health-promoting or less harmful – even natural tobacco without additives is not a healthier form of tobacco.
